Review: Lean On Me by Nicola Haken

20611831

Paperback, 302 pages
Published January 2014 by Createspace

Rachel Mason oozes confidence. She’s outgoing, adventurous and would chop off her right arm before caring what other people think of her or her disability.

Right?

Jared Mattheson on the other hand, is more than a little goofy and a whole lot of carefree. He’s happy living the bachelor life on his father’s credit card, takes nothing seriously and wouldn’t know difficulty if it slapped him in the face.

Right?

With Emily and Dexter away in the States, Rachel and Jared are left behind to keep each other company. They share the same sense of fun, their personalities bounce off one another perfectly and perhaps inevitably, they become best friends. But what happens when the lines of friendship start to blur? How will they cope when the sides of themselves they’ve kept hidden from the world for so long begin to show?

Their journey together may have started with fun, games and alcohol – but it seems the future has other ideas.

Turns out, even the strongest of people need someone to lean on sometimes.

This is my 5 star review for Lean on Me by Nicola Haken for Eskimo Princess Book Reviews.

Lean on Me is Jared and Rachel’s story. Their story takes place at the same time as the book 2 between Dexter and Emily. Jared is a spoiled rich guy with a funny and soft side. He cares so much for his Saffy but can he convince her that his feelings run deeper than just friendship. She gets his humor and gives back to him just as much as he dishes out. Will he be able to handle all the things life is about to throw their way? Will he be what she needs him to be?

Rachel is in a wheelchair, but you can’t really tell it. She is smart and beautiful with a character like none other. She doesn’t hold anything back. She likes to tell people exactly what she thinks of them and she doesn’t let her disability get her down. When life takes an unexpected turn will she be able to hold it together?

I absolutely loved Jaz and Saffy’s story. They are so great together. They made me laugh, cry, and feel just about every emotion in between. There was some unexpected twists and turns along the way and I can’t wait to see how they all play out in the final book! But No worries, the ending isn’t really a cliffy; it just leads on into book 4 like book 2 did!! I loved Jared and Rachel’s characters in Take my Hand so I was thrilled to see that the author gave them their own story. Boy oh Boy was it a story to tell. I loved how Saffy’s being in a wheelchair didn’t stop Jaz from loving her. He accepted her for whom and what she was. To him, she is absolutely everything he wants and everything he needs. I look forward to reading more about them in the next installment of the Take My Hand Series, Never Let Go!

I highly recommend this series; it just keeps getting better and better!!
